Hi, my name is Sara Parker, and I’m happy to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.
I grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Art and Humanities, I have lived in several states across the U.S., including Illinois, New Mexico, and California. I am now settled with my husband Allen and 6 rescue dogs in Edenton, NC.
Although I’ve worn many hats in quite a few different careers, my passion since childhood has been art, and I’ve been an art therapist and professional artist and muralist since the early 1980s.
When my younger brother was diagnosed as a ZZ Alpha in 1996 while serving in the army, I decided to be tested as well. I am also a ZZ Alpha. Unfortunately, five different pulmonologists in different parts of the country told me that at the age of 50, treatment wasn’t necessary for me. When my brother passed away, I found a wonderful, caring doctor who was also knowledgeable about Alpha1, and very proactive about treatment. I began augmentation therapy immediately.
Since then, I have been blessed with AlphaNet Coordinators who have given me invaluable support and information when I needed it most. It is my goal to follow in their footsteps and help support, educate, and encourage other Alphas on our shared journey.
